Decks don’t always need to be built on the first floor of a second storey home. Adaptit Group build many ground level decks for our customers every year. The feeling underfoot while walking on a timber deck is unmatched. Some say that ultimate relaxation can only be achieved while walking barefoot on a timber floor. Our sub-frames can be made from RHS duragal steel, or treated hardwood, and can be supported from bearers with posts into footings, or a concrete slab base. The deck flooring can be either a hardwood decking (preferably Kwila) or a composite decking product. Timber decks will not last in our Queensland environment for over 10 years without a roof cover, so if the deck is out in the open, composite decking needs to be considered. We have conducted extensive research of Queensland Homes and their outdoor structures for the last 15-20 years. We have concluded that any timber materials without a roof cover will have a life span of 10 years before plans will be underway to replace, repair or demolish it. Therefore if there is a roof in place, hardwood decking is sufficient, but if there is no roof, composite decking is the way to go.
